Thorizon, an Amsterdam-based nuclear energy company, has successfully secured €20 million in a Series A funding round. The investment was led by Invest-NL, the Dutch National Promotional Institution, with participation from Positron Ventures, Impuls Zeeland, and PDENH. This capital injection is aimed at accelerating the development and validation of Thorizon's innovative reactor technology.
Thorizon is focused on developing advanced thorium molten salt reactors, which are designed to be inherently safe and produce significantly less long-lived radioactive waste compared to conventional nuclear reactors. The company plans to use the new funding to further refine its technology, expand its team of experts, and advance towards the licensing and construction phase for a pilot reactor. This pilot facility, planned for the Netherlands, will serve as a crucial step in demonstrating the commercial viability and safety features of their molten salt reactor concept, aiming to provide a sustainable and reliable clean energy source.
